Vedic astrology is the ancient Indian science that offers profound insights into a person’s life, their personality makeup, and the influences that have shaped and will continue to shape their life in the future. Vedic astrology is not only an invaluable tool for understanding why your life is the way it is but it also offers precious keys to unlocking your full personal and spiritual potential.
Vedic astrology, also known in Sanskrit as ‘Jyotish’ (science of light), dates back thousands of years. Initially, it was used to create precise calendars for agricultural practices and religious events but over the centuries Vedic astrologers have expanded their knowledge. Much of this profound knowledge that we now call Vedic astrology was been recorded in the Rig Veda—one of the oldest and most important Indian scriptural documents.
Vedic astrology is now taught in a number of major Indian universities and many people from all walks of life use Vedic astrology with all aspects of their lives including choosing children’s names, identifying professional pathways, preventing potential health issues, developing healthier relationships, and better understanding personal challenges.
A Vedic astrologer will build up a detailed, comprehensive picture of the planetary systems that were present at the time and place of your birth. This Vedic astrology birth chart will provide an extraordinarily accurate picture of your past, present and future.
Jyotish (or Vedic) astrology uses the fixed constellations to provide readings rather than relying on the constantly shifting position of the sun as is used by Western astrology. You can read more about that below.
One of the key influences in Vedic astrology chart readings is the ‘ascendant’. The ascendant is the name given to the constellation that is making its appearance in the East at the time of the person’s birth. There are 12 ascendants and each of these 12 constellations shapes a person’s life in different ways.
There are a number of other major influences to consider including the planetary house and the planetary periods. Analysing the combination of these influences provides a wonderful insight into your life.
The birth chart will help you to understand the person you are today, why you’ve made some of the decisions you’ve made in the past and help you to make transformative changes that will smooth out some of the bumps in your future. Vedic astrology can also help you with finding the right partner or mapping out a fulfilling career path.
What is the difference between Vedic astrology and Western astrology?
Vedic astrology bases its predictions on the fixed planetary positions—the sidereal zodiac whereas western astrology relies on the tropical zodiac. The problem with the tropical zodiac is that it is not fixed; it changes relative to the position of the sun.
Due to the way the earth spins on its axis these tropical planet positions have moved away from the fixed positions at the rate of approximately one degree every 72 years. This means that western astrology charts are now some 24° out from when western astrology charts were first created.
In other words, in most cases you are not the sun sign you thought you were. This inaccuracy makes western astrology charts somewhat misleading. Obviously, any predictions based on those charts are prone to misinterpretation.
Vedic astrology focuses on the planets as they really were at the time of your birth. The additional examination of a host of other planetary influences provides a much more accurate and complete picture of your life. An experienced Jyotish (or Vedic astrologer) can use this wealth of information to help you make real sense of your life and prepare for life-changing events.
The heightened accuracy of Vedic astrology can give you real confidence and peace of mind as you move through the challenges that life can throw at you.
